Speed of Sport: Introducing the New Yahoo Sports App to the UK

By Ian Nolan, Director of Sports (EMEA)

Today we’re excited to introduce the new Yahoo Sports app for iPhone, iPad and Android. It’s the fastest, most engaging source of sports scores, news and stats we’ve ever built, all personalised for you - whatever sport you follow.

This weekend is the culmination of what has arguably been the most exciting Premier League campaign in history. The title is still in the balance, and the final relegation place still undecided. The playoffs also begin in League Two, League One and The Championship this weekend, and we have it all covered on the Yahoo Sports app. The app gives you live match, team and player pages, news and match by match updates all in the palm of your hand. Customise your game alerts to ensure you’re first to every goal and result from the games and teams you care about.

We’ve tailored the experience for our football obsessed UK audience, ensuring the experience delivers the matchday information that matters, like line-ups, team formations and goal alerts, at your fingertips as soon as they happen. We’ve incorporated more in-game, team and player stats than any app out there,  which will put Jeff Stelling and his Saturday afternoon panel of experts to shame.

Did you know Swansea’s Wilfried Bony has had the second most shots (89) in the Premier League, more than Sturridge (83), Rooney (81) and Giroud (84), and that Luis Suarez (150) has had more shots than Dzeko & Aguero combined (145)? Sunderland’s ‘great escape’ from relegation could be more than a little thanks to Vito Mannone who makes more saves for every goal he concedes (3.7), than his Premier League rivals Simon Mignolet (2.1), Hugo Lloris (2.0) and David de Gea (2.2). Become a fountain of football knowledge and be the envy of your mates before the World Cup this summer.

Now, with one unified Yahoo login, Yahoo Sports offers a seamless experience across all devices. Be the first one in the know, with the app making it easier and faster to get the stats and scores that you care about. Yahoo Sports also provides in-game social integration using Twitter with a curated list of local sports and team experts, breaking news, editorial opinion along with customizable match alerts and game tracking. The new “Live” section shows scores of matches completed in last 12 hours or starting in next 12 hours based on the leagues you add to your sidebar.

Football is just the tip of the iceberg. Follow your favourite teams and players from rugby, cricket, tennis, golf, F1 and the top US sports; NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB all on the Yahoo Sports app, available free to download now in the App Store and Google Play Store.
